HISTORY
BARB
There is no more formative event in Nancy's life than the death of her friend, Barb. Killed by the Demogorgon, Barb was presumed missing, with the police insinuating that she'd run away. Unable to accept this, Nancy starts digging for answers. Trying to find what out what happened to Barb that Nancy gets her first taste of investigative work. She pieces together clues in Jonathan's photographs. She learns to shoot a handgun. She shakes loose of so many pre-existing expectations she'd had for herself as she pursues justice for her friend, who Nancy feels that she's failed. Barb's death and Nancy's need to understand what happened to her, as well as to dispel the false assumptions about Barb running away being offered as an explanation by the local police, drives her through two seasons, through the shedding of the entire person she'd been before the night Barb disappeared into the Upside-Down. These circumstances lead Nancy to redefine herself, put her stubbornness and intelligence and convictions to work in a tangible way. It changes the entire track of her life.THE HAWKINS POST
Paralleling her love of unraveling mysteries into a career in journalism should have been a no-brainer, but the small town of Hawkins, Indiana can only offer her a single option: the newsroom of the Hawkins Post. While Jonathan is embraced by the male-dominated occupants of the newsroom, Nancy is...not. She's relegated to fetching coffee, lunch orders, and taking incoming calls. She's mocked and belittled, tagged with the derogatory nickname Nancy Drew and outright dismissed by her coworkers regardless of how hard she works or what kind of leads she brings them. It strains her relationship with Jonathan, who doesn't understand the difficulty Nancy has holding up under this treatment. It's Nancy first taste of the real world, where she's subject to misogyny and indifference. And in weathering that experience, receiving encouragement from her mother, Nancy's trust in her own instincts is restored and strengthened. That belief in herself allows her to rededicate herself to investigating the strangeness of events around the Mindflayer's appearance in Hawkins, and leads her back to journalism once the Mindflayer has been defeated.VECNA
Having taken over as editor of the school paper and acquired early admission to college, all things are coming up Millhouse as far as Nancy is concerned. Right up until Chrissy Cunningham is killed, and Nancy's first move is to march directly towards the scene of the crime. As more death and more strange happenings pile up, and Vecna makes it very clear to Nancy in particular that he intends to stomp through to the real world with an army of monsters, Nancy's mindset shifts from defensive and reactive. Up until this point, Nancy's engagement with the Upside-Down centered around rebuffing or squaring off with with whatever pieces of it had intruded into their world. But Vecna present a very different kind of threat. Vecna is a lasting danger. Vecna is the source, the point upon which all the death and danger turns. Nancy recognizes that, and she opts to confront him head on in the Upside-Down along with a crack team of her pals.THE FOG
Shortly after fighting Vecna on his own turf, with the knowledge that Vecna intends to take the fight right back to them, Nancy was lured out to the ruins of Hawkins Laboratory and dragged into the Fog. Caught up in the Entity's murder trial jamjar, Nancy was dispatched at the Entity's whims to take part in murder trials alongside others who had been similarly kidnapped and forced into participation. "Trials" consisted of a single murder being unleashed to kill a team of survivors as they worked to escape. Nancy has suffered through many, many violent deaths, plenty of which involved being hung up on a meat hook as a sacrifice to the Entity.

MONSTER : THE UNBODIED
appearance
Incorporeal. Ever-shifting. Think of Hexxus in Fern Gully. The creature will vacillate between ooze and smoke and solid as the moment calls for it. There is evidence of some kind of network inside of it, but the form will be in constant flux.
POWER_LIST
OOZE | Existing as insubstantial shadow and splatter, unless making direct contact with its prey. This is the point in which the creature is both gaining the most power (ie it's siphoning away someone's thoughts and knowledge) but also when it's the most vulnerable.
MIND SPIKE | A stab of telepathic energy into another creature's mind. It incapacitates the victim, leaving them vulnerable as the Unbodied drains out their memories and mental energy to feast upon. No physical contact required, but the effect is more potent when the Unbodied has their victim in hand.
DUPLICATE | Once the Unbodied has rooted around a creature’s head, it can contort itself into a facsimile of its victim. These are not disguises that can hold up to intense scrutiny or be held long term, but they are a tool for the Unbodied to get close enough to feast on other potential targets.
PUPPET | The Unbodied is not much of a hunter; not built for brawling, it prefers to lie in wait for its prey. What's better than using your first course to bring the rest of your meal? Victims of the Unbodied can be given limited direction, which they will doggedly attempt to complete to the best of their ability.
behavior
Ultimately, the Unbodied wants to know, to such a degree that consumption is all that will really satisfy. If permitted to remain unsated long enough, will manifest in devouring her victims by absorbing their minds fully into herself, leaving behind nothing but drained husks.
Whether or not Nancy fully recollects these memories upon reverting to her human form will be a toss up. With the caveat that remembering them doesn't imbue her with the ability to replicate any abilities she has memories of, depending on the strength of the connection to her targets or the violence of her own death, Nancy will have fragments of what she absorbed rattling around in her head even after she’s reverted to human form.
